How and When to Review Your Wedding Photographer

Writing a review for your wedding photographer on Facebook, Google or for their specific profiles on wedding planning sites, such as Rock My Wedding or BrideBook, is an easy way to share the love of their work and your photographs and helps future engaged couples select their wedding team. But what do you do if all you get is writer’s block when you sit down to write these wedding supplier reviews.

Well here’s how to write a great review for your wedding photographer!

Tip 1: Write some wedding supplier reviews before the wedding!

Take away a chunk of the stress by writing some of the reviews before your wedding! Although you may want to wait to write your wedding photographer’s review until after you’ve got your finished photos, reviews for your clothing, wedding stationery and jewellery can be done before the wedding day, reducing the amount of work you need to do after it! In fact, you could always write a quick review of your experience with your wedding photographer on your wedding day - were they amazing with kids or group shots - write it, and add to it later once your photos arrive!

It’s best to write your review when the experience is fresh, so if you’ve had a great experience with your wedding photographer, put pen to paper (fingers to keys) and write them a glowing review.

Tip 2: Be Honest

Remember that other couples will be relying upon your review for making a decision, so you should be totally honest about your experience. Sing the praises of your wedding photographer for what they did well and if they went above and beyond your expectations. Your photographer will read your review and any positive feedback will make their day. It’s also worth bearing in mind that suppliers can respond to feedback, so be prepared to hear back from them, whether your review was positive or constructive.

Tip 3: WORK OUT ISSUES BEFOREHAND

Weddings are complex events and not everything will go to plan. Your wedding photographer should be experienced in dealing with last minute changes, setbacks and obstacles, but things may not have worked out perfectly.

If you have specific complaints or concerns about your experience, get in touch with your photographer and try to resolve them before you write your review. They may not be aware of your concerns and the last thing you want to do is surprise them with a negative review - especially if there are still issues which can be resolved. Remember excellent customer service is about how a supplier resolves an unforeseen issue and not just their day-to-day good practice.

Tip 4: Add Photos

Got your wedding gallery back or have your favourite photo from your sneak previews to hand? You should definitely include photos with your review so that other couples can see what an incredible job your wedding photographer did. If you’ve got a great photographer that has captured other suppliers’ work - ask them if it’s ok to share those photos to promote your suppliers.

Tip 5: What do I write

Now each wedding photographer’s brand will be slightly different, and while reviews written with formal language about being professional or timely are great, there’s something extra special when you can read a review and feel the couple’s experience.

First off, write the review as though you were telling your best friend about the experience - use informal tones, fun language, and say how much you loved the experience and what, specifically, was amazing.

If you’re struggling with writers block, try answering these two questions:

  • What was your biggest fear before booking your wedding photographer to take your wedding photos? Did it come true, if not, what happened?

  • Before your wedding were you worried how you’d feel in front of the camera? How did it turn out?

Your very personal experience of your wedding photographer is exactly what other couples in your position want to hear!
