Tudor Ruins & Wedding Barn - Manor Lodge, Sheffield

Ellie + Brad’s Chilled DIY Spring Wedding

Ellie and Brad live 5 minutes away from me in the next village. They first met at school, but in true playground fashion, didn’t start talking until 4 years after they left! They came to me following recommendation from their florist (and my amazing friend), Karon – Meadows and Mulberry, so I had a good idea they’d be my type of people.

They’re very outdoorsy (another tick) and opted to meet at Langsett near Sheffield, where Brad proposed, for their engagement shoot, along with Maisie (their dog). They’re both incredibly chilled and that came across from our walk, which was like a quick wander in the hills with friends I’d known for years. A perfect couple to be the wedding photographer for.

On their wedding day I’d agreed to cover both Brad and Ellie getting ready. Brad was getting ready at home (5 minutes away) and Ellie was over at a hotel near their venue. Brad even made sure we all got breakfast from the local café (Bank - where I first met my daughter!).

A quick drive over to Sheffield after breakfast to cover Ellie’s preparations resulted in some amazing photographs, including Ellie managing to hold in some happy/nervous tears. Ellie wore a stunniny, contemporary-shaped, almost ethereal dress from Flutterby Bridal Boutique.

Next stop was the wedding venue, Manor Lodge in Sheffield, with its spectacular 16th century turret house and surrounding old manor ruins and nearby restored farmhouse and rustic barn which is all hired on a DIY basis. Brad and Ellie had opted to have their ceremony outdoors at the Turret House, which provides a stunning backdrop for photographs, confetti, and the first couple portraits of the day.

After a chilled portrait session they trundled down to the Barn in Vintage Volks Wedding’s camper, which had also ferried both the groom and bride party’s from their preparations – a feat in itself considering the Sheffield traffic!

It was then time to party and eat. On-site caterers, Rhubarb Shed, provided the first round of food – some delicious burgers, complete with tasty burger sauce – while the guests were entertained by some lawn games and axe throwing (courtesy of Snakeroom). After the meal PA Entertainments fired up the dancefloor, while Fired Up Pizza Co lit the oven in their vintage fire engine to give us a tonne more sustenance to take us well into the night.

I finished off my work with a few sunset portraits just out of the way of the guests with Brad and Ellie enjoying a little moment together. Could not ask for a better day!

My only regret is not getting the moment Ellie dropped burger sauce covered cheese on her dress and managed to clean it off entirely and dry the dress under the hand-dryer. That would have won awards!
