Chiara + Stewart’s Wakefield Elopement

It’s not every day that someone gets in touch looking for alternative wedding photography for a micro-wedding with just four guests, but Chiara and Stewart wanted exactly that – portraits in the streets of Wakefield following a registrar ceremony at Wakefield Town Hall in the heart of West Yorkshire.

Some registry offices leave a lot to be desired, Wakefield’s is not one of those. Set in the Victorian centre of the city on Wood Street, the town hall is a grand sandstone building, surrounded by equally grand sandstone buildings, like the former Wood Street Police Station – it’s a perfect backdrop for a classical take on street portraits.

Now, it’s a whole career ago that I spent any time near Wood Street, but a quick scout around before the ceremony and I had already found one huge door and a gorgeous rustic brick wall – easily pleased I know – so we were good to go. The registry staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. Chiara and Stewart’s four elopement guests were equally helpful, even being up for a (genuine) surprise confetti shot on the front steps of the town hall. Which just goes to show, you don’t need a crowd for great confetti, and you can get some amazing photos from your registry office elopement.

If you’re planning a micro-wedding at Wakefield, Sheffield, or any Yorkshire city, get in touch, I have mid-week dates available throughout the year, and a few weekends that I’m happy to fill at short notice!
